Training Programme in Managing information in the digital age
Subject: Managing information in the digital age
(March 20-23, 2012, CSE, New Delhi)
Managing information, in the internet era with explosive information availability demands special skills and calls for investments in strengthening the information infrastructure and skills of an organisation.
This specially designed course will teach participants on how to manage all aspects and types of information, at an institutional level and develop a virtual resource centre using open source tools and technologies.
Conducted by:
Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) with more than 25 years of experience in managing thousands books, articles, news clippings, video films, photographs and contact addresses. CSE is also the developer and manager of virtual information gateway “India Environment Portal (http://www.indiaenvironmentportal.org.in)”
Course content
· Planning and managing resource centres in the digital age
· Sourcing information (print/electronic, internet for research)
· Organising Information: Classification & Indexing (including digitized resources)
· A primer on managing audio-visual resources (films, photos, Cds, etc.)
· Digitisation and e-documentation of news clippings, articles, reports and documents
· Building contact databases
· Knowledge creation and dissemination (Information Services/Products)
· E-mail for outreach (mass mail using open source s/w)
· Online presence : reaching out through the web
· Potential of social media and web 2.0 for information dissemination and communication
Course fee
NGOs: Rs. 4,400 per participant
Corporate, government and international organisations: Rs 8,800 per participant
Accomodation and related costs are not included in the cost. However, CSE can help you find a place to stay.

Information professionals in NGOs/ Government /International Organisations/ Corporate/ Individuals interested in quality information management and strengthening their organizational capacities.

Are we really ready?
We the Librarian initiated in profession from the academic institute during Two Academic years i.e. B.Lib.I.Sc. and M.L.I.Sc. are we really ready and able to face the new challenges raised by world information community? This is not just question that I ask you but this is threat lingering in my mind since long time. I know every library graduated students join the arena of information with some vision, idea and objectives initially but surprised to see the great contradiction in theory and practice which may disappoint. I also knew that every neophyte have to struggle between the environments which he has to face and at the psychological front. This may discourage the fighter and turned into negative mind. I do not know whether everybody has to do and pass through the same situation but I’m sure by and large the condition is same.
I also want and make it very clear that I’m not only blaming the apathetical approach and scenario around us, but I rather wanted to speculate over the entire situation and components involve in it such as
1) working terms and condition
2) Secondary approach
3) Shrinking budgets of library
4) Poor communication
5) Library and information skills
6) Serious lack of research and presentation skill
7) Poor technological background
8) Increasing use of google,
And many more. Being an educationist I wanted to find the gap between philosophy and reality and I believe without comments and contribution of actually working people it will not be possible any more. This is again very necessary both professionally and psychologically to vent the rammed breath for a long duration. I hope that you will definitely come forward and response me through your post so that we could take some effective measures to make a firm resolution towards the solution.

NEED OF COMMON PLATFORM
The Department of Library and Information Science of HPT Arts and RYK Science College is among few departments which started very first time outside the University in India. Department has successfully substituted the University of Pune in the subject to the students from remote and tribal area around the Nashik city. Since its inception in 1982 Depart continuously provided the new leaders in the subject and working successfully in very types of Library in various part of country which considered as real assets of the Department. In the last 30 years Department has witnessed many ups and downs but never compromises with quality of education and academic discipline. Under the prudential leadership of Prof. R.A. Singh madam as a Head of The Department every time department arise with new strength and vision.
We know the advent and developments in the ICT has reshaped many things and as a governing force made us to redefine and also replace various concepts in the new context for which we Librarian should always ready. Development is a continuous process and the factor which could adopt accordingly can only have rights to sustain and survive in this changing and developing environment. I have no doubt to say that the Library Profession is absolutely standing on the threshold of destructive point from which only either destruction or new construction possible. Ever before in the history now our role and contribution has become very crucial, which can only decide the destiny and the fate of profession. To my mind its golden time of revolution and we should be thankful for this opportunity to ICT. This is a real time to redefine our values, role, function, importance and utility to the society, this is time to change accordingly to prove on the flow of time. Let us join hands in hands together to discover the new dimension and means of profession, this is a cordial invitation to all of you who wanted to inaugurate unknown direction and meaning towards the future.
Since long back Nashik Library world is sincerely suffering due to poor communication and inadequate means of information exchange channels which must necessary for healthy professional development. Let’s use this most effective, rapid and cheap media for bridging the gaps and stay connected with each others. You are therefore requested to follow this blog and spread the links as much as you can among all your professional contacts, you are also very much well come to post the comments and share your ideas as common platform of all alumna of the department.
