Library Profession has a long legacy in India right from post vedic time to modern period. It was at its peak with highest intellectual achievements of Budhist Civilization when India was a prime leader in eduction who imparting the education to rest of the world through Taxasila and Nalanda University. There is also a historic evidence that the Library of the Nalanda University was burning about six months which gives idea of rich collection of the Library.
Modern period being recognized by the epoch making contribution of Dr.S.R.Ranganathan who provided the strong foundation to the modern library science. With the quality contribution of Dr. Ranganathan, G. Bhattacharya, B.S.Keshwan, Prof. Neelmeghan and Prof.P.N.Kaula etc, a wide agitation of library culture was deeply rooted in the educational spirit of Indian eduction. After the independence the first three decades were core library science centric in which library classification schema, cataloging code developments and typical library services developments were the major issues to which due attention has been paid until the space economical approach warrants special skills and heeds to be paid. This brought a new dawn of the technique and technology where many peoples in India attracted and started contributing in order to over come the presiding problems in the light of 5ve laws of library science of Dr. Ranganathan.
